Bluetooth headphones do have one serious advantage – there are no wires, so they don’t get tangled. Unfortunately, these devices don’t have big batteries and users have to charge them almost every day. In this case, we can rely on help from the most powerful natural energy source that we have – sun.
A startup, called Sola, created the wireless headphones and fitted them with a small solar panel for charging on the go. This device is similar to many other wireless headphones on the market – the headphones are attached to a special neck bracelet and go behind the user’s head. The solar panel is built into the mentioned bracelet. Manufacturers say that on a sunny day the battery time of Sola increases by 25-30% or about 2-3 hours of extra audio playback.
In spite of having a solar panel on board, Sola headphones are very lightweight – only 57g. Besides, the headphones work with any Bluetooth device including music players, smartphones and tablets. The gadget also boasts noise cancellation technology, a built-in microphone and a 200mAh battery.
Sola manufacturers are currently raising funds on Indiegogo to begin mass production. The device is available for pre-order for $29. First shipments will start in July.
