Last year, Qualcomm released Snapdragon 820 and 821. Both processors were successful, especially after Snapdragon 810 which used to overheat while working. What’s more, some smartphones (Samsung Galaxy S8, Xiaomi Mi6) feature an even more advanced Snapdragon 835. This chipset demonstrated great productivity and low energy consumption due to the 10nm process.
But Qualcomm is ready to take a step further. According to the latest rumours, the company will make the next processor – Snapdragon 845 – based on the 7nm process. Just like Snapdragon 835, this chipset will be built in cooperation with Samsung. The next-generation 7nm process was developed by the Taiwanese company TSMC which already started producing test samples. Mass production of Snapdragon 845 is expected to start next year.
According to TSMC representatives, this new process will give a considerable power boost (25-35%) to the chipset compared to the 10nm process. And because Snapdragon 845 will be smaller, smartphone manufacturers will be able to use more space for make thinner devices and fit them with bigger batteries.
