Tablet Market Trend in Q4

The analytics agency Strategy Analytics published a report about the financial situation on the tablet market in the last quarter of 2016. This mobile device business is going through some rough times – the sales are dropping, which is confirmed by the numbers. In Q4 there was a 9% decrease (compared to the same period in 2015) in sales. Overall, companies sold 63.5 million devices. By the way, Apple and Samsung had the most significant sales drop among all brands.

Despite that, iPads are still on the top of the list with 20.6% market share and 13 mill. sold tablets (23.2% and 16 mill. in 2015). Samsung keeps the second place with a bit smaller decrease – 8 mill. sold devices and 12.8% market share.

While two big companies aren’t having the best time, their contenders are rising. Places 3, 4 and 5 on the list are taken by Amazon, Lenovo and Huawei respectively. The latter, in fact, had the most considerable sales boost in 2016 – 49%. As we see, just like on the smartphone market Chinese companies are beginning to take over.

Another interesting aspect is operating systems. Here, we see that iOS and Android are losing positions on the market, while Windows tablets are getting more popular. In Q4 2016, 10 mill. Windows tablets (16% market share) were sold which is a record for this OS.
