Latest Sony Frameless Smartphone

Right now, smartphone makers are trying to expand the boundaries of the frameless design. Many new devices, like Samsung Galaxy S8, feature a bigger aspect ratio (18:9) and no Home button on the front. Still, Infinity displays don’t cover the whole front. But soon, we might see a totally bezelless smartphone.

One of them will be presented by Sony. What’s more, according to rumours from the Chinese social website Weibo, the device will be unveiled during the IFA exhibition in early September. That’s where Sony plans to show the world its new flagship smartphone with a screen without frames. The device is based on a panel called Full Active. The new type of displays was developed by the Japanese company JDI.

Full Active display was made specifically for frameless smartphones. It has a 6-inch diagonal, 18:9 aspect ratio and a 2160×1080 resolution. The bezels on the left and right are extremely thin, and even the bottom bezel is tiny due to a new high-density writing. Full Active is quite impressive with visuals – it delivers deep black colours and is resistant to water. The latter means that even users with wet fingers will be able to operate the screen without complications.
