Defacing basically refers to destruction of the CCTV camera through mischief. It is an unauthorized destruction of body of the camera through robbery, by breaking the lens, spray painting the camera to block the view. Mostly cameras that are placed outdoors are more prone to such physical damages than indoor cameras. Sometimes cameras are hit with iron bars and are destroyed beyond repair.

But all this can be resolved. Nowadays cameras come with metal casings and housings that are fixed to them. This often looks like a mesh or cage that protects the camera from any kind of physical damage or distortion. Another way of securing the camera is by installing it at a higher elevated position where it is difficult to reach for any kind of destruction.

Rainy Season

For any kind of technologically friendly devices rain can be a major problem. It is quite obvious that CCTV cameras when placed outdoors are challenged with various climatic barriers like lightening, thunder, storms and rain in general. Practically, the rain water may penetrate into the camera or the lens and can damage it permanently. Wherein, if the CCTV camera is hit by the lightening it may be damaged by short circuit and can sometimes cause fire as well. These are some of the major problems as rain; lightening and other climatic conditions are inevitable.

But there are some effective measures that you can take to solve these issues. Remember to switch off your CCTV camera during thunderstorms. But that is not physically always possible especially when you are living in an area where it rains a lot and that too frequently. So, the only option is water proofing your camera. Either you can wrap your camera with polyethene bags that will obstruct rain water to seep in or you can buy plastic bags that are specially made for protecting CCTV cameras from the rain. Shock absorbents when constructed within the camera can lower the effects of lightening. Make sure that the conductors on which you fix the camera are not good conductor of light as they will conduct light otherwise. Earthings and wiring should be properly insulated into the system during thunder storms as they would otherwise destroy the system completely. Installing a surge protector will ensure to control sudden rise in voltage.

Unauthorized Access

Isn’t CCTV camera the most advanced technology that ensures security and safety and that can provide evidences of events that have taken place? There are a number of wireless CCTV cameras available in the market that has replaced the traditional CCTV cameras. These cameras are good and well equipped but at the same time it is more exposed to risks like hacking and unauthorized use, as they work on IP network. These can be further jammed by the hacker or tracked further for any kind of sensitive information.

But this can be solved; all you need to do is boost your network with a WPA-2 (Wi-Fi Protected 2). An advanced security protocol that offers advanced security and protection from any kind of unauthorized use. While at the same time keep changing your passwords this will give more security to your network.

Firmware updation

Firmware is basically a software on which the IP security camera runs which is similar to the software of a computer. The camera runs on this framework. However, sometime firmware can also be the reason for the camera is damage. Sometime we do not update our firmware and it can cause various loopholes that can hinder the quality, performance and stability of the camera.

Make sure to update your security system at least once in two to three months. Enquire about the latest version of the update and make sure to upgrade according to the specification of your camera.

Insects and creepers

The CCTV camera can invite a lot of bugs, spiders and creepers due to the light that is emitted from the camera. The corners and the canopy of a camera can shelter some of the insects or bugs. Spider webs around the camera can deteriorate the quality of the footage.

This can easily be solved by frequently cleaning the CCTV camera with soft brushes. Spraying repellents will knock off the insects that are living in the shelter of the camera. Make sure to not spray on the lens while doing so.

Light Reflection

Many times the camera can be placed in the wrong direction that is facing the mirror, river, pool or a pond, windows, panel. This causes unwanted reflection of light on the lens and can distort the footage. In case of the cameras that are placed indoors the video quality can be deteriorated due to the mirror or window glasses.

Make sure that the camera is not facing any object that has a reflective surface. Cover the lens partly from any kind of reflections. Otherwise ensure that the camera is not installed in a place that is facing any kind of reflective object.
