In this article we’re going to tell you about two kinds of smartphone cases that used to be very popular in the past but still remain loved by some people today: sleeves and holster cases.
Sleeve were in a huge demand at the time when first touchscreen smartphones were coming out, around 2008-2011. They are basically a pouch, in which you put your phone. That’s the main advantage of sleeves – your phone is fully covered and protected. Sleeves with magnet flaps are especially protective. As a result, sleeves, especially for Apple iPhone 7 or Samsung Galaxy smartphones, mostly look very elegant and stylish. Besides, they are often made of leather and usually they are soft or padded on the inside, so that the phone wouldn’t get any scratches.
One obvious disadvantage of sleeves makes itself felt when you pull your phone out of it. In this case both your hands are busy and you just don’t know what to do with the sleeve. That’s why it’s hard to operate the phone. Also, sleeves don’t fit well in pockets, especially jeans or trousers pockets. The phone inside a sleeve inside a pocket looks too bulky.
Holster cases have also recently lost their popularity. They are too big and not very compact, which makes carrying and using uncomfortable. The situation is even worse now because smartphones get bigger and bigger in size. Therefore, holster cases were in a better demand in 2000-2008, when phones were much smaller.
Nevertheless, we can’t deny obvious advantages of holster cases. Firstly, they are pretty stylish, they look like a wallet for your phone. Secondly, they are protective. Holster cases cover the whole smartphone and the padding on the inside prevents scratches. Thirdly, modern holster cases are pretty multi-functional. On the market you’ll find many cases with credit card compartments or built-in stands.
All things considered, sleeves and holster cases still have their place on mobile accessory market. Today, they aren’t as widespread as back covers or bumpers but still provide good protection and ensure safety of your smartphone.
