Philips OLED+936 Review: The Best TV for Your Home Theater

Get ready for an OLED+936 that is out of this world. It comes with anti-screen burn technology and Android TV to give you all your entertainment needs. And of course, it supports next-gen console gamers with 120Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution!

What is an OLED TV?

If you are into advanced picture and sound, OLED is the way to go. It uses organic light-emitting diodes which emit light in a limited way. This has multiple benefits. From reducing power consumption to providing high color volume and the way that OLEDs look.

You are probably not surprised to know that Samsung is the only company that makes OLED televisions. Even they aren’t fond of the name. They prefer to use the term QLED, which is a Quantum Dot OLED technology.

However, LG offers OLED televisions as well, and a few different sizes of them. They also offer QLED sets. LG offers three sizes of OLED TVs: 65, 75, and 88 inches. For this review, we went with the 65″ model of the OLED+936. For reference, it has an Ultra HD resolution (3840 x 2160).

Anti-screen burn technology

As most OLED TVs, the OLED+936 uses an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel that produces perfect blacks, vivid colors, and excellent contrast. This gives you all the best that a display panel can offer.

OLED is also one of the newest TV display technology that promises high contrast ratio and good viewing angles. It does that by projecting the images to the LCD panel by having very thin emissive layer that creates black. It’s great for outdoor use but not great for low-light viewing.

As a result, OLED displays can be very prone to screen burn and ghost images that come in the way of the color and picture. This is where Philips’ unique Anti-Screen Burn technology comes in. Philips’ solution is something like a screen filter that is built into the TV frame.

Philips OLED+936 Android TV

If you are looking for the best TV on the market right now, then Philips may have just made it. They call it the Philips OLED+936 and it’s the best television you can buy. We found the majority of its specifications to be very impressive and we have to agree.

The OLED+936 is a smart television for its time. Most smart TVs on the market today have only gotten better since they were released. The OLED+936 is no exception to this. The Android TV on the device is powerful and the television even supports gaming consoles such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The television has a Full-Array Local Dimming (FALD) that offers an amazing contrast ratio and display quality. This HDR10-ready TV can reproduce virtually every color and feature that an HDR device can.

120Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution

With a 4K resolution support, I started my testing with Overwatch, Assassin’s Creed, and the Batman Arkham series. The instant refresh rate is important for smooth and seamless gaming experience.

The curved 4K screen gives a great experience. It was a little overwhelming for my eyes at first, but I could adjust to it quickly. Even though the gaming experience is way better than 1080p, I have to give it to the 27-inch on-ear headphones. I didn’t feel that the audio was that much loud. It was a bit better than my Google Home Mini and Apple AirPods, which is really impressive. Samsung has tuned the TV for media consumption. For movies, I played Thor Ragnarok, and it looked great.

Philips OLED+936 conclusion

To understand the Philips OLED+936, you have to let go of some things. Instead of embracing 4K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, you’ll now enjoy them at high frame rate. Also, forget 4K resolution and HDR, as you can get 120Hz and Standard colors. This might be the right time to consider OLED+936, if you’re really sick and tired of getting burned by HDR on your LCD TVs.

By the way, Philips offers good OLED TV experience for those who prefer to play console games on their TVs. As an optional extra, the company sells PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X consoles. However, these don’t work if you’re not using one of Philips OLED+936 TVs. That’s all I have to say about the Philips OLED+936. As a matter of fact, it’s not for everybody.
