Everybody is familiar with the Swedish brand IKEA that offers all kinds on furniture for reasonable prices. On top of that, IKEA is on track of modern trends and technologies. The most recent example is a new app called IKEA Place. New IKEA App Uses AR to Furnish Your Home.
Basically, it’s a virtual catalogue of all types of IKEA furniture. But there is a twist – the app an augmented reality technology called ARKit. The app uses a smartphone camera to study the room in where the user wants put a certain piece of furniture. After the app knows the measurements of the room, you can use it to virtually furnish your house. In the free space of the room, you can install a virtual model of a table, an armchair, a cabinet or any other furniture from the catalogue.
The model of furniture on the smartphone screen will be displayed with real dimensions. You can walk around the chair or look at the details closer. If the product is suitable, it can be ordered immediately. There is a catch though – the app will be available only on Apple devices on iOS 11 which was introduced yesterday.
