Innovative Laser Technology that Allows Copying Any Painting

In this article, we’re going to talk a very interesting technology that was invented a few years ago by Russian scientists from Lebedev Physical University. Russian scientists from Lebedev Physical University invented a technology that will blow the mind of any art enthusiast. Physicists came up with a method that takes any painting in the world, for example “Mona Lisa” and produces numerous identical copies of it. According to the report, the copies are so accurate that you wouldn’t even tell them from the original.

The technology is based on laser transfer of matter using visible light. The device that reproduces oil painting, lithography and even builds microchips can be controlled the same way as any printer – with a computer. The head of the researching group Alexander Nasibov explained that the transfer of matter (in this example – oil paint) happens due to the copper vapor laser. It works as an image brightness amplifier and is able to transfer not only small elements but also big parts of an image.

At the same time, the image can be reproduced with a very high resolution, added Nasibov. Using special optics, laser radiation can be focused to a very small value where separate pixels have a size of 20mcm. Besides, the invention doesn’t just copy – it helps create new paintings. Without using any brushes, artists can create their masterpieces on a computer. Once the painting is ready, it gets transmitted onto the canvas with the help of Russian technology.

Lastly, Nasibov mentioned that painting isn’t the only application for this invention. What makes laser writing so unique is the ability to transmit any matter, even hard, onto the designated object. Therefore, lasers can cope with many other things, like films, semiconductor structures, and so on. The technology has a great future in electronic industry – microcircuits, LEDs, organic displays, etc.

Right now, there’s no news about any commercial application of this technology but we’re hoping to see this innovation more in the future.
