According to numerous rumours, Apple is going to unveil 3 models of iPhone in 2017. The first two will be the successors of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus without major modifications. But the third one will be an absolutely new device for Apple. Recently, there has been a lot of talks about iPhone 8 having a 5.8-inch OLED display with curved edges, just like in some Samsung smartphones. However, MacRumors, referencing big-name analysts, informed that we won’t see a curved display on iPhone 8.
Analysts from IHS Markit expect that Apple will still use the OLED technology for the display but it will remain flat, just like in all older versions. Other leading analytics agencies (KGI Securities, TrendForce) share this opinion. Still, this information must be taken with concern because analysts tend to change their mind based on the rumours.
It’s worth mentioning that Apple has a lot of patents that describe a smartphone with a curved display. What’s more, many customers expect that it will spread all over the front side of the smartphone and have an integrated fingerprint sensor. In any case, we’ll just have to wait and see.
