A smart thermostat isn’t a new device but if something is becoming popular, a huge company will definitely buy it for further production. So Microsoft announced their own smart thermostat GLAS controlled by virtual assistant Cortana. Microsoft is partnering with Johnson Controls to build this device. Here is brief review.
Thermostat GLAS includes a stylish transparent glass screen where the main elements of interface are shown. It will run on Microsoft’s Windows 10 IoT Core operating system, and will have Cortana voice services built into the thermostat. GLAS can monitor the quality of air and temperature inside and outside of the building and it can automatically define when the owner returns home and in what room he is, thus smart thermostat will save energy by regulating heating and electricity consumption. According to the first promotional video it will be possible to use GLAS not only at home but also in medical institutions and companies. Unfortunately there is no information about the price of the thermostat and the beginning of selling.
