For example, Eviation Aircraft presented a working prototype of a fully electric passenger aircraft which is capable of overcoming a distance of 600 miles (almost 1000 kilometers) without additional recharging.
A small aircraft that is capable of carrying up to 9 passengers and 2 crew members, was created by Eviation Aircraft as part of the NASA On-Demand Mobility Program. By the end of 2018, the aircraft must pass all of the necessary certifications and enter mass production. One of the main innovations of the aircraft is the presence of a new type of battery in the design.
According to representatives of the company Eviation Aircraft,”Our aircraft uses a modernized air-aluminum battery, originally developed by Phinergy Ltd. We added to this a buffer on traditional batteries, as well as a smart energy distribution system based on the use of analytical algorithms. All of this together represents the most highly efficient energy system, allowing it to use every “grain” of deficient energy of batteries “.
In addition, it should be noted that Eviation Aircraft positions itself not as competitors to other major airlines and private air carriers, but rather as an “air analogue to Uber”, hinting at the extensive coverage of its network due to a sufficiently long distance that the aircraft is able to overcome by air, and also at the extremely democratic prices for the use of it’s services.
