Several days ago, we heard the first rumours about Amazon’s intentions to present a new smart speaker fitted with a display. And yesterday, the rumours came true – Amazon unveiled its new creation and it’s called Echo Show.
Just as expected, the device comes with a 7-inch display. This feature expands the functionality of a smart speaker significantly. Every operation can still be done using the voice assistant Alexa but Echo Show offers something new – the possibility to make video calls. Everybody who has this device or a smartphone app Alexa will have access to this feature.
Apart from that, the Echo Show’s display will do even more as soon as Alexa Skills Kit comes out. For example, in Amazon Music, when playing songs, subtitles will be displayed, and the CNN app will be able to show video clips. Also, Echo Show can be used to search videos on different websites, like YouTube, and play music from different streaming services. In fact, this model supports Bluetooth, so it can be used as a wireless speaker.
Lastly, Echo show can display live stream video from surveillance cameras if you want to watch over your baby, for instance.
Amazon Echo Show comes out on June 28 for $230.
