Laptops-transformers or 2-in-1s are popular among users who don’t want to two devices. Instead, they have one gadget that works in several modes simultaneously. This is convenient and cost-efficient. But even among “transformers” there are some unusual ones. For example, the company Onyx International introduced a prototype of an interesting device called Onyx Boox Typewriter. At first sight, it looks like a regular laptop but its display is based on the E-Ink technology. What’s more, the screen can be detached and used as a tablet.

Onyx Boox Typewriter runs on a modified version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. It means that it’s still possible to use different Android apps. This E-Ink device is fitted with a 9.7-inch touchscreen display (1280×825 resolution), a Cortex-A9 processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB of inbuilt storage and a 4100mAh battery. Other than that, Onyx Boox Typewriter supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
Onyx Boox Typewriter has similar functionality to e-book devices – it can be used for reading books, typing text and other daily tasks. Plus, the E-Ink display shouldn’t drain the battery as much as AMOLED or LCD screens, which means that its battery life will be considerable longer compared to other tablets. Onyx Boox Typewriter is expected to be released in early 2018.
