According to XDA Developers research, two smartphone companies – OnePlus and Meizu – manipulated with benchmark figures of their two flagman devices: OnePlus 3T and Meizu Pro 6. XDA enthusiasts were able to determine that during productivity tests both companies intentionally raised clock speed to make processors work faster and more effective. The difference was around 10%. In this case, the CPU in OnePlus 3T had an actual temperature of 48° while all benchmark apps showed 45°. Apparently, OnePlus and Meizu tried to fool particular apps to get better figures from all benchmarks. However, increasing numbers was completely pointless because smartphones don’t work at this speed in regular conditions. The only purpose was to trick benchmark apps without the concern about real users.

OnePlus was quick on response here. They explained the incident by saying that this “powered-up” mode was added for better gaming action. Also, the company assured everybody that all the following tests will be done properly. Hopefully, both companies will deal with this issue as soon as possible and it won’t cause a new wave of cheating on the mobile device market.
