Today most companies don’t make trackballs anymore, having focused on standard mice. Kensington is a rare exception. Its new device, Kensington SlimBlade Trackball has everything you need in a regular mouse and it’s Mac-compatible.
The Kensington SlimBlade Trackball is based around a static base with a large, weighted ball to roll under your fingers moving the mouse cursor on screen. The cursor tracking is very slick with optical reading of the ball applied internally. The centre-piece is large, shiny, red ball which is very sensitive and responsive.

Four buttons on the mouse open up a range of different functions. Two lower buttons have same functions as on a regular mouse, but two top ones control different modes. The top right (NavigationMode) click turns the ball into a scroll wheel and if you take the ball between a finger and thumb, you can zoom text and images. The top left button engages (MediaMode) media control. Twisting the ball raises and lowers volume.
The SlimBlade Trackball is compatible with most computers including Macs. Some people may not like the fact that the mouse is USB-connected to the computer but smooth operation and responsiveness of the SlimBlade Trackball certainly justify that.
